ORGANIZATION
With the Plattsburgh-North
Country Chamber of Commerce serving as the lead organization in New York and the Federation of Chambers
of Commerce of Quebec serving as the lead in Quebec, the QUEBEC-NEW YORK CORRIDOR COALITION links more than 2000 chambers of
commerce, economic developers, businesses, government agencies, universities
and other interests throughout the bi-national Corridor region.
The Coalition is a pro-active
leadership consortium, committed to the development of the full potential of
our common economic region. The Corridor
and its partners are determined to maximize environmental, human and geographic
resources, and promote commerce and industry throughout the Corridor to serve a
global marketplace. We work together
through collaboration, cooperation, mutual support and commitment to enable the
Quebec-New York Corridor to operate as a true regional economy.
The framework of this bi-national
collaboration is the QUEBEC-NEW YORK CORRIDOR AGREEMENT. Signed in Montreal in December 2001, this agreement
established a pathway for the business communities of Quebec and New York to work together for quality
economic growth within their shared region.
It was supplemented in May 2002 with a Memorandum of Understanding
between the Government of Quebec and the State of New York,
creating a full private-public partnership.
Through the on-going work of a
number of committees and working groups, great progress continues to be made in
such diverse areas as transportation, border facilities and services,
technology collaboration, energy, tourism and more. This continuous work is highlighted each year by two major events - an annual
QUEBEC
-NEW YORK ECONOMIC SUMMIT, covering all aspects of the
growing economic relationship north and south through our corridor, and the CHAMPLAIN/LACOLLE
BORDER SUMMIT, focused on the facilities and services at our border crossing.
