Established in 1936, East Central Energy was the first rural electric cooperative in Minnesota. Today, ECE is the third largest consumer-owned electric utility in the state and the fiftieth largest electric distribution cooperative in the nation, serving more than 55,000 residential and business customers.

ECE also promotes several community service initiatives and charitable works including Arbor Day, Capital Credit Choice, Caring Members, Green Touch, International Program, Operation Round Up, Tree Trust, a scholarship program and youth tours to Washington, D.C.
